A week in the life of an Event Planners Guide

Bright pink Event Planners Guide and Travel Trade Guide on a white table with MeetEngland Logo on the right corner.

Let me introduce myself. I am an Event Planners Guide (EPG), not your average guide, a Liverpool Convention Bureau guide!

I am an in demand publication, in this ever increasing digital world I am excited to say that I still feel needed in person.

Whilst it has been great travelling virtually to inboxes and being downloaded globally from our website since March 2020, it’s been lovely to get out and about domestically since August. This week I am super excited to be travelling internationally.

Today, I am all packed up and we are heading to Liverpool John Lennon Airport to fly to Barcelona to attend IBTM. I am accompanying my colleagues Suzanne and Rachael to attend my first international trade show in two years!!

Here I am after a smooth check in and journey through security. All our paperwork is checked and in order so we head to departures.

On board I can overhear my colleagues chatting about the week ahead and I am excited that I will be introduced to many new clients. It sounds like I will be getting passed around many people from association buyers, Professional conference organisers (PCOS) to Destination Management Companies (DMC’s)

I know I need to look my best, I have been told before over the years how good I look and people recognise my lovely pink complexion as I sit on the stand with my front cover facing the world!

After a quick flight we arrive in Barcelona. There are many people heading to the same place as us, I can see the welcome desk directing people. We hop in a taxi to the hotel, unpack, have a quick change and off we go to meet industry colleagues to catch up ahead of the show and then an early night for all.

Up bright and early this morning to head to the exhibition centre Fira, it’s so lovely to be here again after all this time. My colleagues Suzanne and Rachael place me pride of place on our Liverpool Convention Bureau pod on the Meet England Stand.

I feel quite at home here and am looking forward to spending the next few days having back-to-back appointments with new and existing contacts.

The days are flying by and it’s great to be chatting through my contents with clients who are looking for new destinations, conference venues, venues for dinner and drink events, hotels and for things to do in conference free time in Liverpool, if they are lucky enough to get any!

I always tell clients they should encourage their delegates to arrive early or stay later as there is so much to see and do. I have all the information inside my covers, that family and friends could also come and join to enjoy the fabulous City of Liverpool and surrounding areas.

It’s the end of the week and I am exhausted. We have chatted all things Liverpool and the City Region to our appointments and I am now off to accompany our new clients back to their offices and home offices to share with my new owners’ colleagues.

My fellow guides will also be pinged around the world in link form and will be arriving in inboxes as Suzanne and Rachael complete their post-show follow up. I have had a great week and I know in 2022 I have many more outings planned to places and events that I will be attending.

First up is CONFEX in London, I look forward to that in March. I will then be off to IMEX in Frankfurt in April and then for the first time I will be heading over to Leeds to attend Conference Hospitality Show (CHS) as we had to move this from last year.

I love that my diary is nice and busy so I will need a makeover by the time we attend The Meetings Show in London in June 2022 as there are so many new things I need to feature. We will be adding a few additional pages to include new venues, hotels and events that Liverpool has planned.

We will be planning an event to show off the new refreshed me so it’s all exciting and as I am sustainable, my colleagues will be printed as and when they need me, so we don’t spend long in the store cupboard. I look so good on client’s desks that every Event Planner and Personal Assistants (PA) wants a copy of me, I am not left on the shelf.

As we travel home, I can hear Suzanne and Rachael chatting about future Fam Trips, Sales Missions and Club Liverpool Ambassador Events. It’s such a busy time, I love being out and about and until the next time I will still sit pride of place on our website, so I am available for all to see 24/7.
